What is Hazing in depth?

I know the overall defination of hazing; its like making fun of a person or people in collage??? Well anyway what makes hazing hazing? In in more detail what is it. I was watching CSI and they were talking about it on there. I was just wondering what it is exactly..... j/w thanks
