Why do many Americans ociate Conservatives with Hypocrisy?

Is it because of Senators like David Vitter who talks about family values and then goes and pays for prostitutes? Is it because Conservative "family values" Governors like Mark Sanford use taxpayers money to spend on his mistress from Argentina, while rejecting stimulus funds? Could it be from Senators like John Ensign a proponent of the "Sanctity of Marriage" and a member of a secret religious club who recently had an affair and then hires his mistress's son for a job with the GOP? Does anyone know why many Americans call Conservative Republicans hypocrites? You hear it on the news and on the internet and in print. Conservatives say that is because these are Liberal biased but they also reported on Democratic hypocrites like John Edwards. I always thought hypocrites were hypocrites regardless of party affiliation. What do you think?
